-The Fashion
Museum-
-About Fashion museum-
The fashion museum opened in the Assembly
rooms on 23 May 1963, founded by Doris Langley Moore, a designer, collector,
writer and scholar. She gave her famous private collection of costume to the
city of Bath. Now, the museum is owned
by the City of Bath and North East Somerset Council.
About 100.000 people visit there each year.
They enjoy seeing the beautiful and interesting costumes and trying the
dresses on. Different exhibits have been held every year. The special display
of this year is sports and fashion.
-We were visiting-
We entered the Fashion Museum. In the first hall, there are many clothes
that were used to make a film. In Japan,
there are often advertisements for this film using these clothes. The story is
about the Queen Elizabeth I.
There are some halls which were used as
dance halls in the 18th Century. They were called Assembly Rooms, and they were
opened in 1771. Although the original building was damaged by bombing in 1942,
it was rebuilt in 1963. Now, the building is owned by the National Trust but it
is leased to and managed by Bath and North East Somerset Council.
There are some boards in the museum. People
can draw their designs of clothes and put them up on the board, and people also
can exchange information about fashion and the museum.
There is a space that we can try on some old fashions from the UK. It was so popular and we tried on some clothes too. The clothes
are so beautiful and we enjoyed it.
-Interview-
We interviewed the staff
and visitors.
-First person-staff
Her job is looking after visitors. She
likes this museum so much and she thinks that there are a lot of fantastic collections.
Her favourite exhibit in this museum is the Silver Tissue Dress c1600s. Her
best memory is meeting the lovely people who visit there.
-Second person-
She had never visited before there and it
was the first time she had been there. Her favourite thing was trying on the
dress. She came with her daughter. They said that they enjoyed this museum!
-Third person-
She comes to this museum every year from
London. She and her husband live in London. However, because her relatives live
in Bath, they always stay in their house. Of course, she was with her husband.
She thinks that a good point in this museum is that they hold different
exhibitions every year.
We were very grateful for their help and kindness.
Finally, in this museum, there are so many
wonderful exhibitions. We felt that there is so remarkable and recommend you
visit there. The fantastic clothes and staffs will welcome you!
